WHAT DOES FLINTA* MEAN?

FLINTA* is a German acronym that stands for "Frauen, Lesben, Intergeschlechtliche, nichtbinäre, trans und agender Personen", which translates to "women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender people". The asterisk at the end of the acronym is used to represent all other forms of self-identification that are not explicitly mentioned. The term is used as an umbrella term to refer to people who may be discriminated against in a patriarchal society.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

The music industry (as well as most industries) is particularly male dominated, so many people who aren’t cis-male often miss out on opportunities to further their careers.

While we do believe things are generally improving, there is still a whole lot of work to be done. Every little helps, so if we can shine some light on otherwise under-represented artists, that is exactly what we’ll do.
