Hi KG, how’s it going and how are you feeling about the release of your EP ‘4 On The Floor’ so far?
It still hasn’t fully sunk in yet that “4 On The Floor” is out! It has been so exciting creating this project, and it has taken all year to get to this point. The response has been incredible so far, and I’m so happy that people are listening and making their own experiences listening to the music.
The title track ‘4 On The Floor’ is beautifully hypnotic. What inspired this song and how does it make you feel listening to it now that it’s released?
I wanted to put a spin on an experience which was a little scary, and make it thrilling and fun. After a minor health scare a week or so before this song was written, I was very conscious of my heart and monitoring how it would race. I found it interesting how a heart racing can either be a very bad thing, or the total opposite. When you are experiencing euphoria at a concert, and the artist is about to come onto the stage, your heart races and it’s amazing. I wanted to spin what was happening, into something light hearted. With lyrics like “heart rate off the score” and “a lifeline to dance to”, we used this real topic and made it danceable. The song describes as a whole, hearing and feeling your heartbeat, but through the kick in a song. Now listening after its release, I feel so proud of the track, and what it represents for me as an artist.
You’ve got a timeless pop sound, who inspires you most when you write and who is your favourite artist to be compared to?
When writing, I have so many contrasting influences and music eras that I like to pull from. Some of my favourite artists include Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Troye Sivan. If I could be compared to any of them, it would be the world's biggest compliment to me as they are all such individual and incredible artists.
What's your experience like being a songwriter/producer living in London?
London is so full with talent, and it keeps everything exciting when it comes to making music. For this entire project, I worked with some of my closest friends, to create the music and visuals, which has been such a rewarding and beautiful process. I found that the small team I have built, really know me and my sound, and we are all striving for the same goal. Working with my best friends, when trying to make my popstar ambitions a reality, is a dream come true.
What’s next for KG? And when can we see you live?!
I am currently still in the “4 On The Floor” bubble, and working on some really exciting things for the project that will be coming before the end of the year! I’m hoping I will be able to do my first headline performance soon, you’ll be the first to know!
