UGLY OZO DROPS DEBUT SINGLE ‘ONTO A WINNER’
Isle of Wight newcomer ugly ozo has announced her signing to North London label REX RECS with the release of bold new single ‘onto a winner’, out today (June 10).
Her debut release under REX RECS — the indie imprint launched by producer Macks Faulkron (REX Studio) — ‘onto a winner’ is a biting critique of beauty standards and social media-fuelled perfectionism. Described by Baker as a “sarcastic, dystopian take” on modern femininity, the track was born from a personal reckoning with self-esteem, comparison, and the impossible chase for the ‘ideal’ woman.
“I wrote it when I felt completely consumed by online pressures. There’s this constant stream of new insecurities being invented — it’s dark, but I wanted to reflect that in a tongue-in-cheek way people could connect with.”
