Emerging indie-pop artist Beth McKenzie has unveiled her debut EP via Handwritten Records, a five-track collection blending vibrant indie-pop with alternative sonics. The EP introduces two new tracks: “It Won’t Always Feel So Heavy” and lead single “The Cult,” both showcasing Beth’s raw storytelling and emotional depth.

“The Cult” reflects on Beth’s teenage years within a restrictive belief system, offering a sharp yet playful commentary on outdated societal norms. “It’s about questioning beliefs that no longer serve you,” Beth explains. “Humor helps me process difficult experiences, and I wanted this track to balance meaning with lightness.” Closing the EP is “It Won’t Always Feel So Heavy,” a tender, piano-led ballad. “I wrote it knowing it wouldn’t be a single, which freed me to create something raw and honest” she shares.

As a queer artist, Beth strives for representation, both through her lyrics and performances with her all-female band. Initially classically trained, she turned to songwriting during a challenging period in her late teens, crafting music that is diaristic, vulnerable, and deeply relatable.

This EP solidifies Beth’s position as a rising voice in indie-pop, balancing sharp wit and emotional resonance in her journey toward self-expression.
