COLBY! RELEASES DEBUT EP ‘DEAD GIVEAWAY’
Emerging artist Colby! has unveiled her debut EP, Dead Giveaway, a striking introduction to the 19-year-old Texas native’s distinct voice in alternative pop. The five-track project, crafted in collaboration with her brother and producer RJ Johnson, showcases her dreamy vocals set against ethereal synths and intricate melodies.
“I’m so excited—and honestly, a bit nervous—to finally share this EP,” Colby! says. “My brother RJ and I started making music in a makeshift studio at home, never imagining anyone else would hear these songs. Music has always been something we do out of love.”
The EP includes previously unreleased tracks like “Moving On” and its title track, “Dead Giveaway.” Reflecting on the latter, Colby! explains, “It’s about those moments in a relationship—romantic or platonic—when you realize there’s no depth left. You’re putting in the effort, but it’s clear the other person isn’t meeting you halfway. Sometimes, the best thing is to accept it’s time to move on.”
Raised in Fort Worth, TX, Colby! grew up surrounded by live music and immersed herself in creative pursuits, from singing and writing to baking and painting. Diagnosed with severe dyslexia at age 8, she underwent intensive therapy to manage the condition and found solace in the arts. At 14, she began writing music with her brother RJ, a Berklee College of Music graduate, laying the foundation for the artistry she showcases today. Colby!’s Dead Giveaway signals the arrival of a fresh and authentic voice in the alternative-pop scene.
