DE CLAIR. RELEASES NEW SINGLE ‘SEATBELT’
Swedish artist de clair returns with her most intimate release of the year, “seatbelt,” out today on The Satchi Six. Stripped to its core, the track was recorded in a single live take in an industrial space in Kuldīga, Latvia, capturing de clair’s raw, poignant lyricism and minimalist aesthetic.
Speaking about her new single, de clair explains, “What you hear was recorded in one take, and it was also the first time I sang the entire song, which influences how it sounds—it feels like it was created specifically for that room."
Continuing, she says, “‘seatbelt’ is about seeing others, but also slowly realising that you yourself are not seen—neither by yourself nor by others. It’s like looking through an old family photo album and not finding yourself. Sad, but not uncommon, I think. This time, we mixed through a tube compressor instead of tape. During my time in Kuldīga, I wrote a lot of new music, but the process around ‘seatbelt’ was special. It was unexpectedly high summer, the last of the year when I was there, and I swam in Europe’s widest waterfall and hung out with Mikael’s dog, Lester.”
Born Clara Rudelius, de clair began her musical journey at age ten with guitar before moving to the family’s grand piano. Influenced by icons like Nico, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Björk, her style melds indie, alternative, and folk with deeply personal lyrics. Her debut EP, featuring singles like “peace of mind,” “the man,” and her debut track “sleep with me on my birthday,” has already made an impression on the Swedish music scene. With her evocative lyrics and understated approach, de clair is quickly building a global fanbase.
