MISO EXTRA RELEASES NEW TRACK ‘GOOD KISSES’
Pioneering British-Japanese artist Miso Extra has teamed up with Metronomy’s Joseph Mount for her latest single, “Good Kisses,” released today via Transgressive. “Good Kisses” delves into romantic insecurity, capturing, in Miso’s words, “that crushingly insecure feeling when someone isn’t as into you as you are into them.” The track fuses sophisticated pop with drum machines and bilingual choruses, drawing listeners into Miso’s unique “Misoverse.”
Miso Extra, a fast-rising artist known for blending pop, electronic, and hip-hop influences, was born in Hong Kong to a British father and Japanese mother, later relocating from Japan to the UK. With early training in violin and a passion for singing, she cites J Dilla, MF DOOM, Daft Punk, and Kelis among her influences. Anime also profoundly shapes her artistry, adding a unique visual layer to her music.
Despite her early love for music, Miso didn’t initially see herself in the industry due to limited Asian representation. In 2020, during the UK’s lockdown, Miso Extra—her musical alter ego—was born. Her name, derived from taunts she experienced growing up, flips stereotypes with humor and power. Miso Extra emerges as an anime-inspired figure in an alternate world she calls the “Misoverse,” a peace-loving but strong character who values love, growth, and authenticity. With her music, Miso Extra reclaims her narrative, offering a compelling blend of personal storytelling and cultural reflection.
