GREENTEA PENG DROPS NEW SINGLE ‘ONE FOOT’ + ALBUM ANNOUNCEMENT
Greentea Peng, the genre-defying artist known for her soulful and introspective soundscapes, has announced her upcoming album TELL DEM IT’S SUNNY. Set to feature 14 tracks, the record marks a shift from the expansive, outward-facing lens of her 2021 debut, MAN MADE, to a more introspective exploration of self. Alongside the announcement, Peng has unveiled her latest single, “One Foot”, a hypnotic follow-up to the album’s debut track, “TARDIS (hardest)”.
While MAN MADE examined the collective and universal experiences of a transformative era, TELL DEM IT’S SUNNY narrows its focus to the raw human experience, delving into the politics of self. Speaking about the project, Peng shared: “Exploration of the self-political, the threads that make up this patchwork called life—all story, thought, and emotion. All ups, downs, the ebb and flow. This album is the wave joining the cove, an exhale, the closing of a book. Collaged pieces of the soul chasing new pages. TELL DEM IT’S SUNNY, above the clouded path of self-enquiry.”
The new single, “One Foot”, is a standout example of Peng’s lyrical vulnerability and dynamic vocal delivery. Produced by OCT8VES (Jon Mills and Nat Powers), the track’s raw instrumentation underscores its haunting chorus and reflective themes. As Peng describes it, “One foot front and back again, the journey of perpetual longing.”
Peng’s growth over the past three years is evident in the hands-on approach she’s taken with TELL DEM IT’S SUNNY. Beyond her signature vocals, she plays bass on several tracks and has taken a deeper dive into production. The album’s collaborative roster includes longtime partner Earbuds, multi-platinum producer Nat Powers, Samo, and the enigmatic St. Francis Hotel, all of whom contribute to the album’s rich sonic palette.
Fusing elements of dub, reggae, jazz, contemporary hip-hop, and psychedelic rock, Peng’s work continues to defy categorization. With her honeyed vocals and spiritual themes, she crafts smoky soundscapes that resonate deeply with listeners worldwide.
Greentea Peng’s TELL DEM IT’S SUNNY promises to be a deeply personal and genre-spanning exploration of self, cementing her place as one of today’s most captivating artists.
