MEG ELSIER RETURNS WITH SHIMMERING NEW SINGLE “SPORTSCAR [SCRAPPED]”
Rising indie-rock artist Meg Elsier makes a compelling return with her latest release, “sportscar [scrapped],” the lead single from the deluxe edition of her acclaimed debut album spittake, out July 25.
A sleek, emotionally charged indie-pop track with alt-rock edges, the single layers crisp guitars, shimmering synths, and a propulsive beat. It builds from quiet introspection to an anthemic chorus—mirroring the emotional acceleration implied by its title. Heartfelt and hook-filled, it’s a late-night driving anthem capturing the growing pains of young adulthood with poetic force.
“‘sportscar’ is an interesting addition to the deluxe because spittake almost had a different identity. At one point, I considered naming the album Check Engine Light On. I didn’t realize how central the theme of cars was until after writing it. I was really identifying with my beat-up car from my mom—something shiny on the outside, but burning out underneath. That was my life then. I’d get dolled up, perform well socially, but under the hood, I was crashing.”
The single arrives alongside a bold live visual, created with longtime collaborator Jacq Justice. Blending stagecraft and raw performance, the video reimagines what a live show can be. “Why can’t a rock show be theatre? Camp?” Elsier challenges. “Why does it have to live in reality to be real?”
